Hello, my name is Barbara Clemens.
My Textile Workshop was founded in
1981 in Cologne, Germany . Until 1987, when the workshop was relocated to the country,
about 15 textile exhibitions were held. I design and produce patchwork hangings and
quilts. I place particular emphasis on color contrast and geometric forms. These works are
sometimes made of hundreds of smaller pieces and are as large as 2,80m x 3,20m. My
patchwork hangings have been exhibited in group exhibitions in Heidelberg, Hamburg,
Stuttgart, Barcelona and Montpellier . Since 1981, I have worked on the loom, weaving
fabrics of natural materials, and sewing these into clothing. The clothes have been made
to simple patterns, so that the fabric does not need to be ruined by too much cutting. At
this point, I would like to present myself and give those interested an overview of my
work. I am married and have done free-lance work since 1981. I was docent
for patchwork and weaving at the University of Cologne from 1987 -1990. Since 1992, I have
been employed at the "School for Careers with Future" in Koblenz for practical
education of ergotherapeutic students in textiles (silk painting, patchwork, macramee,
weaving , basket weaving, leather work) and since September 1996, teach textiles at the
DAA in Koblenz.
Since 1999, I work with leather and produce handsewn leatherbags.
I am a member of the group AKK Cologne and Kunsthandwerk NRW
and I live in Bad Neuenahr Germany
